Congressman C.W. "Bill" Young and Straight
In 1974 US Congresman C.W. "Bill" Young met with Robert DuPont, then director of NIDA, later a Straight consultant, today a member of DFAF's Advisory Board, to secure federal funding for The Seed in Pinellas County. Four years later Congressman Young received three out-of-state complaints about Straight, but did not stop the abuse. In February 2003 Young's Appropriation Committee approved a $100 million valentine for Pinellas County including $3 million for beach improvements to Treasure Island and St. Pete Beach and $ 4 million for a development center and therappeutic community for Operation Par. Later that year Operation Par dedicated the $4.3 million The Beverly and C.W. Bill Young Center for Research and Recovery.
